What is The Amazing Race: First Call Community Challenge?
This is a unique fundraising event for First Call For Help of Ellis County! Inspired by the CBS hit, “The Amazing Race”, teams of 4 will solve clues to various locations in Hays. Once there, teams will complete challenges before receiving a clue to the next secret location. The team finishing the specified number of challenges in the quickest time is the winner! This is not your typical "running race" so if you are not in perfect physical shape no worries, this is teamwork at its finest!
Why are you having this race?
The focus of this event is to build awareness and much needed funds for First Call for Help's emergency assistance services. Money raised from this event will allow us to financially aid Ellis County families in crisis, those facing the threat of eviction or disconnection of utilities. Building teamwork and community pride while helping others, makes this a fun and rewarding experience for you and your friends, family or co-workers.
This is our fourth annual Amazing Race fundraiser and this year we hope to increase the number of teams and raise over $3,000 so we are able to assist more Ellis County residents in crisis.
Who can be on a team?
Teams may be made up of coworkers, family members, and friends, anyone 12 years or older. One vehicle per team is needed as this race will be spread around Hays. Register your team with $75 down by Dec. 31, 2018 and teammates will receive early bird prizes! Then, turn the rest of the money in by the Registration Deadline, February 22, 2019. So hurry, register your team early and win your special prize.
How much is the entry fee?
The entry fee for the race is $75 per person or $300 per team. Remember, this is a fundraiser so the more money you raise the better chance your team will win the Ultimate Fundraiser and receive a 3-minute headstart in the Race! All teams raising $500 or more, will receive a deduction of 30 seconds off their total time for each $100 raised beyond $500. Entry fees must be brought in or mailed to First Call For Help 607 E. 13th St. Hays, KS 67601 by Friday, February 22, 2019. We encourage you to raise funds by setting up a social media site such as a Team Facebook page, Go Fund Me page, or ask family, friends or co-workers to donate or a business to sponsor. People are welcome to bring cash or checks by our office to sponsor your team, but please make sure you tell them your team name and have them write Amazing Race in the memo.

How do I set up our team Social Media Site?
If you would like to raise awareness about your team and collect donations, create a social media site. Any public webpage will do, such as making a Facebook page for your team. You may visit https://www.facebook.com/help/104002523024878 and create a free page here.
Please email the URL or link to your Team Website when it is ready to firstname.lastname@example.org if you choose to do one.
Is the team that finishes first the only one to receive a prize?
No! There will be 3 award categories:
1. Quickest Time (Team completes the specified number of challenges)
2. Best Team Costumes or Uniforms
3. Ultimate Fundraiser
*Drawings for various individual prizes
**All contestants and volunteers will receive a T-shirt, snacks and appetizers.
What should I wear?
Use your creativity and choose a costume that best represents your team or select a specific color to help your team stand out from the rest! Tennis shoes would be helpful since you’ll be in a hurry! Check the weather for race day and dress accordingly. Most challenges will be inside, but you will have to run, walk or drive to get there.
Will there be any team eliminations similar to the TV show?
No- since this race will be occurring all in the same day, there won’t be a need for timed trials or eliminations.
