What is The Amazing Race: First Call Community Challenge?
This is a unique fundraising event for First Call For Help of Ellis County! Inspired by the CBS hit, “The Amazing Race”, teams of 4 will solve clues to various locations in Hays. Once there, team members will compete in moderate physical or mental challenges as well as fun/silly challenges. This is not your typical "running race" so if you are not in perfect physical shape then this is the race for you! After solving clues to challenge locations you may walk, jog, run, drive or even take public transportation to get there.
Why are you having this race?
The focus of this event is to build awareness and much needed funds for First Call for Help's emergency assistance services; helping Ellis County families in crisis to avoid homelessness or disconnection of utilities. Building teamwork and community pride also makes this a fun and rewarding experience for you and your friends, family or co-workers.
This is our second annual Amazing Race fundraiser and this year we chose to allow kids ages 12 and up to participate making it more family friendly.
Who can be on a team?
Teams are made up of four people and one of the four must be at least 16 years of age or older. This is a fun event to do with family, co-workers or friends. Not only are you raising money helping people locally you will have a great time during the race. So hurry, select your team of four and register early so you don't miss the deadline, February 22, 2017.
How much is the entry fee?
The entry fee for the race is $75 per person or $300 per team. Entry fees need to be brought in or mailed by February 22, 2017 to First Call For Help @ 205 East 7th Street, Suite 204, Hays, KS 67601. Teams are encouraged to raise more than $300 and the top fundraising team will be given a 2 minute head start on race day! An additional 30 seconds off their total race time will be given for each $100 raised beyond $500. We encourage you to raise funds by setting up a social media site such as a Team Facebook page, Go Fund Me page, or ask family, friends or co-workers to donate. We are able to accept cash or checks for donations. Please make checks payable to First Call For Help and in the memo put Amazing Race.
How do I register my team?
TEAM NAMES are important! Complete the form below with your team name and all participant names and information. You should receive a confirmation e-mail after you hit the submit button.
How do I set up our team Social Media Site?
If you would like to raise awareness about your team and collect donations, create a social media site. Any public webpage will do, such as creating a Facebook page for your team. You may visit https://www.facebook.com/help/104002523024878 and create a free page here.
Please email the URL or link to your Team Website when it is ready to email@example.com Attn. Laura if you choose to do one.
Is the team that finishes first the only one to receive a prize?
No! There will be 3 award categories:
1. Quickest Time (Team completes all challenges)
2. Best Team Costumes or Uniforms
3. Ultimate Fundraiser
Various individual prizes plus all contestants and volunteers will receive a T-shirt or bag.
What should I wear?
Use your creativity and choose a costume that best represents your team or select a specific color to help your team stand out from the rest! Tennis shoes would be helpful since you’ll be in a hurry! Check the weather for race day and dress accordingly. Most challenges will be inside, but you will have to run, walk or drive to get there.
Will there be any team eliminations similar to the TV show?
No- since this race will be occurring all in the same day, there won’t be a need for timed trials or eliminations.
